Soooo………….. what’s up?

Yeah okay. I know it’s been nearly 7 weeks since the last episode. I don’t have a good excuse. Just got lazy. That’s all there is to it. However, episode 5 SHOULD be out within a few days! I have everything ready to go, just need to render it all out.

Enough about my ineptitude! In this episode we start looking at the videos from Round 2 of the tournament, which are all about COVER songs! Some really great stuff in here so I hope you enjoy.

It’s back! :O After a month of nothing new, the next episode of the Online AMV Iron Chef Tournament v4.0 has arrived. Sorry I took so long with this. It’s been a busy bunch of weeks but that’s little excuse. I will do my best to stay on top of this better!

This episode features the remaining 15 matches from Round 1 of the tournament which took place between April 14th, 2011 and April 26th, 2011. Since the last episode, Round 2 has begun and is actually coming to a close by now. Because Round 3 is roughly around the corner, I decided to go ahead and reveal the theme of the next round at the end of this episode, so watch out for that. I hope you guys enjoy it! Take care.

(So remember my comment on the previous posting about the audio levels on the live-action segments being too low, and that I need to get better at that? Yeah well, I still do. So, sorry that those parts are significantly quieter than the rest.)

Please welcome our new replacement judge: Pwolf!

by Brad on 04/23/2011

So as you guys know, our 5th judge, Robert Crauder (Godix) has passed away. As sad as this is, the tournament continues and we need a 5th judge. Thankfully, Scott Grasso (Pwolf) has agreed to take his place. Scott participated in Round 1, but was knocked out by AngelDragoon. Scott managed to reclaim his AMV Iron Chef “cred” by winning the live Iron Editor event at the recent Sakuracon! Not that this is the only reason for being a viable judge. He’s been a big part of the AMV community for a long time and definitely has an eye for good editing… Plus he was available… Thanks buddy!

R.I.P. Robert Crauder (Godix)

by Brad on 04/21/2011

I’m very saddened to have to say that Rob Crauder (aka Godix) has passed away. Not only was he one of our 5 judges, he was also a friend and source of laughter in the AMV community.

As far as a replacement judge goes, I’m not particularly concerned with it right now. For now, we pay our respects.

Well here it is! At long last (and only 2-3 weeks after I meant to do it), episode 1 of the Online AMV Iron Chef Tournament v4.0 is here.  The video above is essentially a compilation of all of the matches performed for IC4 between Wednesday, March 30th, 2011 and Thursday, April 7th, 2011.   If you’ve made your way here not knowing WHAT AMV Iron Chef IS, to sum it up, two editors go up against each other in a 2-hour editing session.  They each use a randomly pre-determined source (anime), and 20 minutes before their match begins, they are given a song to edit to, which was also randomly assigned to their match number.  The competition is to see who can create the best video in a short amount of time, with little preparation.

I do have to say, I apologize for the audio quality during the live-action segments.  I had originally hoped to shoot it using a more high-quality setup, but ended up having to use my iPhone.  Boo.

Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy the episode!  I am planning on having episode 2 up by this upcoming Sunday.

Corrections:

  • 00:18:05 – The flag next to Kain-X-Spirits should be a French flag, not Canadian.
  • 00:22:55 – Nya-chan’s source was actually “Shigofumi 1-5″
  • There seems to be an odd de-sync’ing issue happening as the video progresses.  Honestly, I really don’t feel like re-exporting the entire project to fix this since it seems to be fairly minor.  My apologies to the videos near the end of the episode whose videos are off sync.

Episode 1 is coming soon!

by Brad on 04/20/2011

Hey everybody. I’ve got episode 1 re-encoding as I update this post. The video would have been online about a week ago, except I one major mess up.  After spending roughly 8 hours setting up the entire episode to render, I had one main project file.  I set the file to encode overnight.  When I got up and checked up on it, it had crashed around halfway through.  Not a MAJOR deal, but kind of annoying.  When I clicked OK on the crash message, it gave me the option to save the project.  Instinctively, I clicked OK.

… bad choice.

When I restarted After Effects and opened up the project file, I came to find out that somehow the file had become corrupted after that save.  Basically it meant that I had to recreate close to everything I had done the night before.  This was understandably discouraging.  It took me a while to get up the heart to reopen AE and start over (this time, using an Increment and Save workflow… Start doing that. Seriously).  Last night I finally got the heart to do it and set it to render.  I’m on my 2nd re-encode now since after the first version completed, I noticed that some things were messed up.  It should be completed within a few hours, then it’ll be ready to upload.  Huzzaah!
